Low impact forestry reduces harmful impacts on the forest, so that after the cutting is done, there is still a functional forest. It means that the same piece of land can be cut every 10 -15 years while increasing the amount of wood growing there; at the same time protecting the soil and flow of water, and maintaining wildlife habitat.
"We have been trying to make the forest fit the mills. What we need to do now is manage the forest for the health and vigour of naturally occurring species and design an industrial strategy to make best use of and maximize employment from the products of this natural forest."
